Wool pile on wool foundation.this yastik (cushion cover) exhibits the design motifs and clear palette found in better Turkish textiles of the late 19th century. The central device may refer to the four directions, a design with Chinese roots. The red corner devices derive from Persian floral motifs. The lappets on each end (partly missing on one end) contain talismanic symbols linked by some scholars to the Mother Goddess cult with ancient Anatolian roots. Now fitted for use as a pillow with red velvet back and zipper.provenance: Private collection
