item description: A large panel made of Central Asian Ikat silk fabric. Ikat technique involves a complex resist-dye process to accomplish the pattern. The looms used were small, so this panel is made up from several narrow pieces joined together. suitable for use as a cover, in upholstery or as a decorative panel.

item description: Anatolia, Late 19th century. Wool pile on wool foundation.this yastik (cushion cover) exhibits the design motifs and clear palette found in better Turkish textiles of the late 19th century. The central device may refer to the four directions, a design with Chinese roots. The red corner devices derive from Persian floral motifs. The lappets on each end (partly missing on one end) contain talismanic symbols linked by some scholars to the Mother Goddess cult with ancient Anatolian roots. Now fitted for use as a pillow with red velvet back and zipper.provenance: Private collection

Polynesian barkcloth or Tapa, hand made circa 1945 in the traditional technique with natural dyes and the inner bark of the paper-mulberry tree. Recently divided into four panels and mounted as a folding screen, the back finished with Curwen printed laid paper, stretched on lap-jointed poplar frame.
