item description: A large panel made of Central Asian Ikat silk fabric. Ikat technique involves a complex resist-dye process to accomplish the pattern. The looms used were small, so this panel is made up from several narrow pieces joined together. suitable for use as a cover, in upholstery or as a decorative panel.

item description: Painted circa 1955. Signed “J Lapayese” lower right front. Oil on canvas in old exhibition frame, with exhibition label on stretcher. 21" X 38" Lapayese completed his first professional sculpture at age fourteen. From 1942 to 1949 he studied in Barcelona at the school of Arts and Trades and the school of Fine Arts. He returned to Madrid and attended the Círculo de Bellas Arte. He worked in ceramics and sculpture while continuing to study painting in depth. In 1954 he received a grant from the Italian government to study in the Spanish Academy in Rome. In 1957 he went to Paris where he lived for six years. From 1963 to 1984 he lived in Madrid, carrying out his work, commissions and exhibitions of painting, sculpture and engravings. In 1984 he moved to Miami where he lived until 1993, when he returned to Spain. In these years he painted portraits, completed nine large pictorial murals in the state of Florida, carried out exhibitions, and worked as a professor at the University of Miami, the University of Saint Thomas, and at Florida Memorial College. During his trips to Spain he worked on commissioned jobs and exhibitions. In 1994 he returned to Miami to complete some commissioned work. He died in this city. In good condition, with one small restoration, recently cleaned and varnished.

item description: Black painted wood coffee table with red details, with glass top and lower shelf. Set into the table top (under the glass) is a "sociological" map of Belgium by Paul Vidal de la Blache, printed in color and published by Armand Colin in Paris in 1917. The map is from a folio of wall maps by Paul Vidal de la Blache (1845 – 1918). Vidal de la Blache was an important figure in French sociology and is regarded as the “‘founding father of’ the French School of Human Geography”. Map published in 1917. Table made ca. 1970
