Still Life with Pineapple signed Steel; probably Edwin Steele, British artist 1837-1898. Oil on canvas; 24 inches x 20 inches. Steele was known to sign his name without the final "e". The canvas was relined many years ago and is in good condition, recently cleaned and varnished.

Oil on canvas, painted ca. 1880, in fine period frame. Signed lower right. Titled by the artist on the reverse. Schafer was born and trained in Germany and came to America in 1876. He traveled in the Northeast then settled in California. During the following fifty years Schafer became one of the leading artists of the American West. His work is in many leading public collections, including the Seattle Art Museum, the Crocker Art Museum and the Oakland Museum of California. In good condition, recently cleaned and varnished.

item description: Painted Bench with Box Seat, Pennsylvania, ca 1840. Original grain painted details over mustard yellow, traces of red, on pine construction. 41” x 70” by 20” deep. Crested back rail over gallery with alternating diamond and baluster splats. The seat lifts to reveal a divided box. Retains original iron lock and escutcheon. From a German community in Pennsylvania.

item description: The Mill Pond by Alfred Thompson Bricher (signed with initials Atb) watercolor heightened with white gouache on buff paper. bricher was born in 1837 to English parents in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. By age 21 he opened a studio in Newburyport, Massachussetts, then Boston, where he received favorable publicity. He traveled in New England, keeping copious sketchbooks, and exhibited regularly in the National Academy of Design and the American Society of Painters in Water Colors. Bricher's Hudson River School contemporaries were Frederic Church, Sanford Gifford and John Kensett. He was a Luminist painter, interested in the effects of light and translucency. period frame with achival 8-ply French mat and museum glass.
