The Pfau family operated a famous maiolica workshop in Winterthur, Switzerland in the 17th century and produced maiolica decorated with scenes from antiquity and religious history. New York's Metropolitan Museum has a complete stove made of these tiles showing the life of Christ and various saints. Ours illustrates an event in the history of ancient Rome.
