Item description:
Auguste Charpentier (1813 - 1880) studied under Ingres and was known for his protraits of Paris luminaries, including his famous portrait of George Sand. This fine double-sided drawing is a study for a larger work (it is squared for transfer). The figure is rendered in black chalk, then heightened with white gouache.
