Samuel Prout O.W.S. (1783 - 1852) was one of the masters of watercolor active in Georgian England. This early work shows his fine control of wash and his ability to express space through the use of light and aerial perspective. His later, fully worked panoramic scenes of England and the Continent were the fruition of skills seen developing in this sketch.
