Item description: Sergius Hruby (Vienna 1869 - 1943) was a prominent member of the Viennese art world during it's greatest period. Hruby was a prolific artist, well-listed and represented in many public and private collections.
This work contains a still life within a decorative framework. The mysterious still life consists of a glazed jug with two poppy pods, an ear of corn and a pomegranate in an autumnal palette against a clear blue ground. The surrounding design is rendered in green and gray overlaid with a shagreen-like pattern in metallic bronze pigment. The style is close to the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who exhibited at the 8th Secession exhibit, which occurred in Vienna in 1900.
