A fine seascape from around 1950 by the American painter Margit Beck, blending elements of Cubism and Abstract Expressionism. Beck was a New York painter, a fellow at the National Academy of Design and the MacDowell Colony. She exhibited at Babcock Galleries and ACA Galleries. This painting is in the original exhibition frame and has the original label.
Margit Beck was born in Tokay, Hungary in 1915 and died in New York in 1997. She is prominently listed. Her papers are at the Smithsonian archives of American art.
